Message from the chairman

I am deeply humbled to have been elected the fifth chairman of Zumuntah Association UK.

As chairman of this noble Association, my main objectives are to lead in exemplifying our Islamic Values in the unification and expansion of our membership, mobilization of resources, building partnerships with relevant organizations in the best interest of Zumuntah.

My tenure will remain guided by the timeless values and teachings of the Qur’an and the prophetic example (Sunnah), most specifically:

• Sincerity (Ikhlas) –in responding in responding to demands of the entire membership and in steering the affairs of Zumuntah.
• Excellence (Ihsan) – my actions will be aimed at bringing everyone on board towards achieving our stated goals as enshrined in our constitution irrespective of our ideological differences (Brotherhood).
• Compassion (Rahma) – I believe that the protection and well-being of every life is of paramount importance and we have a duty to protect our children and families, therefore an effective and appropriate safeguarding measures will be continuously enforced at the centre as well as prompting our Imams to reinforce these during sermons or lectures.
• Social justice (Adl) – We have found ourselves in completely new country with different set of rules and family values requiring our continuous adaption. Therefore I aim work with relevant organizations and to also use our in-house professionals to deliver lectures on child protection system, gangs, extremism/ radicalization, female genital mutilation, domestic violence and others.
• Custodianship (Amana) – working with the rest of the executives alongside the welfare and community centre management committees, I aim to protect and expand the resource base of Zumuntah in a transparent and accountable manner through the ongoing restructuring.

I am confident that as we network and share ideas we shall excel and continue to write our names in the history of mankind. Today we renew our expressions of mutual respect for each other. And as a reflection of our time, let us be reminded that our experiences have trained us for the duties of compassion, tolerance, respect and service to humanity. I also believe it is the only investment that cannot be discounted over time. It is with this collective spirit that we have come together in partnership to ensure that current and past members and the generation of members who come after us are given the best possible help, support and preparation to take advantage of the opportunities they get in life and the hereafter. There are a lot to do as we partner with each other in shaping the future of Zumuntah Association.

As the saying goes, ’if you find us riding high at the top it is because we are riding on the shoulders of giants like you’

It is with firm belief and conviction that the Executive Team reposes confidence in every member of this Association, both past and present and ask ALL to push the wheels of this Association towards a better and enviable future.

In the current global economic climate, I applaud all individuals and organizations whose continuous generosity support this association as we strive to empower a generation of children. Your contribution continues to enable us to support, train and develop people who are ethical, disciplined, value driven, respectful, good to the community and above all people who can effect real positive change in our lifetime. This is truly humbling.

To all committee members we say thank you for your support, and to former executives, we appreciate the excellent work you have done and count on you to avail yourselves to the service of Zumuntah Association UK. It is fair and proper to single Chairman Abdul Sharkul for his exemplary leadership in our most difficult times.

On behalf of the entire Executive Board I welcome you to our website. For us it is an honour to serve our colleagues who have entrusted us with such great responsibilities.
